Rachel Podger

Crypt Close-Up – Duologues

Crypt Close-Up – Duologues
Baroque violinist Rachel Podger and recorder phenomenon Lucie Horsch play baroque showpieces and British folksongs in a concert to illuminate the Crypt at St Martin-in-the-Fields.

They call Rachel Podger “the queen of the baroque violin”. Lucie Horsch has been described as “the latest big thing in recorder playing” – an artist whose charisma has redefined the 21st century recorder. So put them together in the magical atmosphere of the Crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields, and it’s safe to say that we won’t be short of illumination! This hour-long Crypt Closeup brings their shared musicianship close enough to touch, with a programme of Baroque delights by Telemann and JS Bach, as well as the pair’s delightfully fresh take on British folk songs: music as old as time, that always sounds new.

Programme:
Bach arr Chad Kelly Toccata and Fugue in D minor
Telemann Der getreue Musik-Meister
Telemann Fantasia no. 7 ‘a la Francese’
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Duet for flute and violin in E minor
Telemann Canonic Sonata No. 1 in G major
Bach arr Brüggen/Horsch Partita No. 3 for Solo Violin in E Major
Antonio Maria Montanari Sonata for violin in D minor, Giga senza basso
Boismoitier Sonata for flute and violin in E minor op 51
Traditional Tune Set

Performers:
Rachel Podger violin
Lucie Horsch recorder
