La Serenissima

Crossing Borders

with Tabea Debus (recorder) and Katy Bircher (flute)

Crossing Borders

La Serenissima are joined by Katy Bircher and Tabea Debus for this programme of Italian instrumental music, exported during the early part of the eighteenth century. The music of Vivaldi had a major influence on composers such as Telemann and Bach, but sometimes music by composers such as Telemann travelled the other way. His sonata for flute and viola d’amore survives in the hand of Vivaldi’s father, Giovanni Battista Vivaldi.

In addition, some German composers such as (the wonderful but little known) Schreyfogel and Sieber spent their entire careers in Italy, whilst Brescianello spent most of his career working at the court of Württemberg.
