Consone Quartet

Mozart Quartet and Quintet

With Jenny Lewisohn (viola)

Mozart Quartet and Quintet
Mozart’s String Quartet in A major was written in the winter of 1785 and was dedicated to Haydn, whom Mozart greatly revered. With its richly inventive textures and harmonies, the work was also admired by Beethoven, who studied it while writing his own quartets.

Violist Jenny Lewisohn will join the quartet for Mozart’s String Quintet in D major. Composed in late 1790 and published after Mozart’s death, the work showcases his innovative textures, unexpected key changes, inventive use of motifs and a particularly expressive slow movement.

BBC New Generation Artists Consone Quartet were formed at the Royal College of Music in 2015. The following year they won the Royal Over-Seas League Ensemble Prize and in 2022 were awarded a prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust fellowship. The quartet has been critically acclaimed for its performances on period instruments in concert halls and festivals across the UK, Europe and North America.
