South West Baroque Orchestra & Andrea Brown

A Feast of French Baroque

with the Bristol Early Music Festival Chorus

A Feast of French Baroque
The flickering flames of hell, the soothing balm of cooling streams and a tragic love tale...

For the final concert of the festival, we turn to the rich elegance and dance-like tunefulness of the French Baroque. In this programme we hear pieces by three of the masters of the style: the spiritual drama of Lully's Dies Irae, the reassurance of Sweelinck's setting of Psalm 42, 'Like as the Hart', and the operatic exuberance of the love story of Sémélé as told by Marin Marais in his orchestral suite from the opera.

With the South West Baroque Orchestra, and introducing the newly-formed Bristol Early Music Festival Chorus. The concert is conducted by the internationally renowned early Music specialist, Andrea Brown.
