Charlotte Spruit

Unaccompanied Bach

Unaccompanied Bach
Out of silence, a solitary voice speaks. In these works for solo violin, JS Bach reveals music at its most intimate and personal.

With its improvisatory, expressive opening, Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 3 unfolds into a work of monumental brilliance. Like refracted light, a single line transforms into a chorus of voices.

Composed in the year in which his wife unexpectedly died, Bach’s Violin Partita No. 2 is shrouded in longing and nostalgia. A sequence of dances culminating in the Chaconne, Bach conjures a world of haunting beauty and quiet transcendence.

Bringing these profound masterpieces to life is 2024 ClassicFM ‘Rising Star’ Charlotte Spruit.

Programme:
Johann Sebastian Bach Violin Sonata No. 3 in C Major BWV 1005
Violin Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004
