More Spendid than the Sun
Music celebrating the feast of Candlemas in the candlelit Elizabethan Old Church, Stoke Newington.
More Splendid Than the Sun highlights the joys and miracles of the Virgin Mary’s life. Providing the centrepiece of this programme is a luminous six-voice Mass by Nicholas Ludford (c. 1485–1557). The Mass is based on the plainsong Videte miraculum (‘behold the miracle of the mother of the Lord’) for the feast day of Candlemas, the occasion when Mary presents Jesus in the temple 40 days after his birth.
Combi-tickets for the two Candlemas concerts on 5 February and all four winter concerts are available via the Book Tickets button.
