Sacred Lamentations in Renaissance England

‘Behold our Affliction!’
Hear the Brecon Choir Festival debut of the Bruegel Consort, recipients of the 2024-26 Stile Antico Ensemble Development Award, in the 800 year-old Christ College chapel.

The ensemble presents a century-spanning programme of passionate musical expressions of sacred lamentation and consolation by significant composers of Renaissance England.

Centered on Robert White's (c.1538-1574) beloved Lamentations a5, the programme includes a selection of William Byrd’s (c.1540-1623) Cantiones Sacrae and Richard Davy’s (c.1465-1538) stunning yet little-known setting of the Stabat mater dolorosa.
