BBC Singers: Bach's B Minor Mass
A Catholic Mass by a devout Lutheran composer, finished the year before Bach’s death in spite of failing health and eyesight, this work was probably never performed in its entirety during Bach’s lifetime. Featuring choir and orchestra with extended wind section, strings and continuo, it was heralded by its first publisher as 'the greatest musical work of art of all times and nations'. Today it is widely regarded as one of the most extraordinary achievements in the classical repertoire.
