SUPERSIZE POLYPHONY 3 – VENETIAN BLINDERS!

SUPERSIZE POLYPHONY 3 – VENETIAN BLINDERS!
A MESSAGE FROM CHRISTOPHER MONKS ABOUT ARMONICO CONSORT'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT!

My musical journey started with Monteverdi and the Venetian Schools. That has inspired so much of what we have gone on to develop at Armonico Consort and has never ceased to inspire me and our musicians.

The sharp eyed will notice that within the programme I have placed a huge polychoral work by Francisco Valls, a Catalan composer. The reason is simple – the influence of the Venetian composers across Europe was staggering during the renaissance and baroque. Composers would travel for months to share and sell their music.

Programme Highlights to include:

  • Monteverdi Lauda Jerusalem (from Vespers of 1610)

  • Valls Missa Scala Aretina a 16

  • Monteverdi Beatus Vir

  • David Buckley World premiere & Lamentations

  • Monteverdi Ave Maris Stella a 8

  • Tallis Spem in Alium

Armonico Consort & Baroque Players.

The English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble

Christopher Monks - Director
