This programme brings together a selection of Handel's nine German arias with instrumental works from the same period.

Soprano Angela Hicks is joined by May Robertson (violin), Sean Maxwell (harpsichord), and Sarah Small (viola da gamba). The performers present this music with a focus on clarity and balance, highlighting the relationship between voice and instruments. The arias offer a range of moods and styles, while the instrumental pieces provide contrast and context. Together, they give a sense of Handel's writing on a more intimate scale, allowing the detail and character of the music to come through.
