The Capability Consort

The Capability Consort
The Capability Consort was formed in 2023 as a Regency dance band and works regularly with callers including Libby Curzon (http://www.mrsbennet.co.uk) and Jorien van den Bor . We use period instruments and clothing, and aim to produce the rich sound suggested by the scoring of Ignatius Sancho's published dances. Our aim is to combine the poise and direction of chamber and orchestral music with the fun and flexibility of a folk band.

Since forming, our engagements have included a Tea Dance for regular students at Mrs Bennet's classes; formal balls in the Georgian Museum in St Albans, the Naval and Military Club in St James', London, and the Royal Hospital in Chelsea; regular appearances at Brighton Pavilion and Garrick’s Temple to Shakespeare, Hampton; and a recent festival appearance at Fenton House, Hampstead. The Consort also plays music from earlier periods, using appropriate instruments.

The musicians are William Summers - Romantic Flute; Diane Moore - Classical/Romantic Violin, Jacob Garside - Classical/Romantic Cello, Ian Watt - Romantic Guitar.
