Liturina

Continuo Foundation grantee
Supported by Continuo Foundation
Currently the Ensemble-in-Residence at St. Clement Danes Church, Liturina continues to enrich this iconic space with regular chamber and collaborative concerts. Recent highlights include their selection for the prestigious Brighton Early Music Festival Live! scheme for 2022/23, as well as an invitation to perform at Spain’s ECOS Festival Internacional de Música Antigua de Sierra Espuña. Across the UK, they have appeared in celebrated venues and festivals like St. John’s Smith Square, Baroquestock Festival, and Handel Hendrix House, as well as at festivals supported by the Philip and Dorothy Green Artists Scheme and Making Music.
In 2025, Liturina will take on a summer residency at Festival de la Gente. The ensemble’s recent recording project, Bach x Mansfield, features their own inventive arrangements of Bach’s works, alongside commissions by jazz-composer Jonny Mansfield inspired by Bach’s Trio Sonatas. This project, made possible through the generosity of Continuo Foundation and RCM Accelerate, reflects Liturina’s fascination with the intersection of baroque music and modern genres—a passion they continue to explore through new commissions that bridge these worlds.
Expanding their role as passionate educators, Liturina recently launched a Young Composers Competition, aiming to inspire the next generation to compose for historical instruments, fostering innovation in early music and an appreciation for historical instruments.
Founded by Iain Hall and Gabi Jones, who met at the Royal College of Music in 2017, Liturina quickly gained acclaim, winning the Richard III Prize for Historical Performance in both 2018 and 2019. They were finalists at the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition, where their performance was praised as “particularly delicately played… an impressive performance” (Andrew Benson-Wilson, 2021).
The ensemble’s members are celebrated musicians in their own right, performing with top historical ensembles like Florilegium, the Academy of Ancient Music, La Serenissima and The English Concert. With deep expertise spanning multiple genres, each member brings a unique perspective, allowing Liturina to reimagine historical performance in fresh and exciting ways.
