KontraBande

KontraBande
Kontrabande - Small forces big results

Artistic Director and Countertenor - Charles Humphries
Violin 1 - Julia Bishop
Violin 2 - Rebecca Bell
Viola - Jan Schlapp
Continuo Cello - Catherine Rimer
Keyboards - David Wright

Kontrabande is an ensemble that has been created from old friends who have played and performed at the highest level throughout Europe specialising in Baroque and Renaissance music. After a period of time abroad, living and working, Humphries decided, on his return to the UK, that he would "get the band back together". Individually each member has played with some of the finest ensembles both as concertmaster and/or rank and file and alongside Humphries' experience it is this culmination of brilliance that makes Kontrabande so valuable and worth hearing and supporting. Initially offering programmes with just solo voice it is the intention that the group expands and augments depending on repertoire - adding singers for Purcell odes or Bach cantatas or diminishing with more intimate performances of three instruments and voice when required.
