Elderwood

Elderwood
Elderwood was born out of a candlelit Christmas concert series in December 2025, an experiment to discover whether there is an appetite for this music.

Drawing on repertoire spanning the Medieval, Renaissance, broadside ballad and folk traditions, and with collaborations from the wider Early Music world, Elderwood brings centuries of song to new ears, performed with warmth, intimacy, and a deep respect for the living tradition from which it comes.

Angela Hicks is a professional singer with extensive experience in historically informed performance. Elderwood is her most personal project, shaped in part by the legacy of Belinda Sykes, whose founding of Joglaresa and tireless championing of Medieval and folk music as something living, breathing and genuinely accessible set a standard Angie seeks to honour and carry forward. Old songs, brought back to the people they were always meant for.

Members:
Angela Hicks, Jessica Conway, Louise Williams voices
May Robertson violin
Jean Kelly, Clara Hyder harp
Louise Anna Duggan, Elsa Bradley percussion
